FAQ
Q: What type of long arm quilting do you offer?
We offer freehand meandering service done on an APQS Millennium in a smoke and pet free environment. Our mission is to provide a fast turnaround at an affordable rate to quilters of all levels! We use a lightweight bottom line brand thread in a matching color to ensure the quilting will blend and not stand out. We can also accommodate different threads on request.
Q: What is your turn around time?
We are proud to offer an extremely fast turnaround with quality quilting. We will give an estimate at the time of drop off.
Q: How should I prepare my quilt for long arm service?
1. The backing fabric needs to be 4" longer in each direction. Add 8" to the length and width of the top. So a quilt top which measures 60"x 70" would need a backing fabric measuring at least 68"x 78".
2. Clip loose threads on underside of quilt, or they may show through, especially in a quilt top with light colored fabric.
3. Make sure your quilt top is squared. Press the quilt top and fold neatly. Check the borders to see if they lay flat or are they wavy? It's easy for borders to become stretched and "wavy." Wavy borders frequently result in unwanted tucks once quilted. One way to make flat borders is to fold the quilt in half lengthwise and measure the center of the quilt and make the side borders the same length as the center measurement, NOT the edge measurement. After you attach the side borders, fold the quilt in half the other way and measure the crosswise center (including the borders you just put on) and make the other borders the same length as that center measurement, not the edge measurement.
4. Prepare the backing: Backings fabric can either be an extra wide backing fabric, or the backing may be pieced. Busy patterned backing fabrics are a good choice because a top thread will often show slightly, even with perfect thread tension. When piecing the back, please make sure to trim the selvages off. They will shrink unevenly when washed and create a puckered line. Use a 1/2- 5/8" seam and press the seam open.
